What To Expect

I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD!" Psalm 122:1

Augustana’s worship service is relatively informal, and we welcome children of all ages! Our order of worship (the “liturgy”) comes out of the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal, and we have a bulletin with page numbers so it’s easy to follow along. (You may want to put bookmarks in ahead of time.) The service is in the front of the book; hymns are in the back. There are also Bibles in our pew racks (their pages have red edges, so they’re easy to find), and you can use them to follow along in the Scripture reading. Service lasts about an hour; we share Holy Communion on the first and third Sundays, as well as high holy days.

Holy Communion Practices:
All baptized persons who believe Christ is present in the sacrament are welcome to communion. Communion can be delivered to the pew if you cannot come forward; simply inform an usher or the Pastor as you enter the service. Children are welcome to receive the sacrament as early as they indicate their interest, for it is Christ who calls all his children to his Table of Grace. Parents are invited to speak with the Pastor about a visit to the home to introduce the sacrament to the child with their family.

During the school year we have Sunday School for children ages Preschool through Middle School. Parents are welcome to have coffee and fellowship upstairs during this time. We encourage you to use the Discussion Questions at each table to reflect on the day’s Scripture readings.
